Seem like a piece of news not too long ago but now once again Singapore Bus Fares is going to increase again for Adults by 1 to 2 cents and 2 cents for senior citizens. Although it does not seem like a big amount but considering the fact that I will need to take about 2 to 6 buses a day (client sites, office and home), this increase would mean that every month I will need to pump in about an extra $1.44 into my transport allowance!!! In 12 months this would mean an extra $17.28!!!

Although I can understand that lately everything had been getting more expensive due to the increase in
GST and the increase in employer CPF contribution but increasing bus fares at this point of time seriously in my opinion does not really solve the problem. SBS had claimed that this increase will only partially offset their cost but I would like to ask them why not think of a solution which can help to offset their cost totally…

Consider things like using more fuel efficient buses to cut down the cost of petrol, have bus services to cover slightly more distance since this will cut down the number of short distance buses (of cos this would mean a slightly longer journey to for some commuters but guess it is more worth it). Also they could actually get more double deckers buses instead of single deck ones especially since it can carry more passenger at any one time and the fuel consummation is just slightly greater than a single deck bus. If one is to consider the distance, passengers and fuel consummation, naturally the double decker buses would be more worth it.

Of cos I believe there are many other ways in which
SBS can used to actually lower their cost. To me it is always more worth it if SBS can carry their own internal changes to lower their cost since it only impact their organization (ok at most a small portion of the public) rather than to increase the fares which will impact almost every adult in Singapore.

Comeon I am not a rich guy in fact pretty average so every cents really does matter to me… Maybe I can consider cycling to work in the future since it is free and good for health.
