Female in IT Industry - My Views

In response to agnes80_tan post on Do you think female suitable for IT? I have my few cents views on this.

Firstly I think the IT industry is quite a "fair" industry when it comes to gender selection. I have seen both guys and gals landing on senior technical roles before and even the ladies command respects from their guys counterparts. Pay wise I always believe in abilities rather than gender (although I know some industry favor ladies more than guys).

But then there are really some areas in IT which I think well rather unsuitable for a lady to be in. Lets just say in area of IT Support where 24/7 standby is needed. This is one of the few areas where having a lady would be unsuitable cos imagine travelling to client site in the middle of the night alone just because of a support call. Also in areas of IT where manual strength is required (ie moving servers etc) is where I felt might be unsuitable.

Other than what I mention I think the IT industry is rather fair and based mainly on abilities. Of cos the need to continue upgrading one self is needed even for a guy like me to survive in the IT industry cos IT is simply moving too fast and if we stay at where we are we will never get to see the future.
